TOPIC: An Introduction to Custom Sourcing Automation.
Glenn Gutmacher has taught sourcing to people around the world for decades, but since 2010 he's been fascinated by the potential to automate many parts of it. If you've never heard of bookmarklets, custom web scrapers or leveraging APIs and formulas in Google sheets, don't worry. We'll start with Chrome extensions for automation that many sourcers use (and others they should know, but don't), then show how you can go beyond those when off-the-shelf solutions don't work well, using tools already on your computer. All examples will be practical sourcing use cases using people-related data. The best part is everything he'll show is 100% free forever (unlike some "freemium" tools that tease you with functionality that requires a paid tier after a minimal level of usage). And if at the end of his presentation, you're also turned on by the potential and motivated to go deeper, he'll steer you to some great free learning resources online.

After several years as a pioneering full-time sourcer at Getronics and Microsoft and then as a trainer with Shally Steckerl at Arbita, Glenn moved into sourcing management, building and leading US-focused sourcing teams based overseas for the past 12 years at Avanade (leading Microsoft solutions partner majority owned by Accenture), State Street (one of the world's largest custody banks) and now at Huron (leading Oracle, Salesforce and Workday solutions partner).
In 1996, he founded one of the first newspaper-owned regional job boards, JobSmart, which won the industry’s two most prestigious awards in 1998: the EPpy Award (Editor & Publisher) and the Digital Edge Award (Newspaper Assn. of America). In 1997, Glenn created one of the recruiting industry's first Internet sourcing courses at Recruiting-Online.com, training recruiters and sourcers from hundreds of companies ranging from the Fortune 500 to small staffing firms, in a self-paced, fully online format. He was the official Internet recruiting certification instructor in 2000 for SHRM's Northeast Human Resources Association (NEHRA), in 2001 for the Boston Herald's Jobfind.com and in 2002 for the Boston Globe's BostonWorks.
Glenn remains a leading innovator in online sourcing methods and application of Internet tools to recruiting, encouraging a generation of sourcers to learn bookmarklets, webscraping and other custom coding to automate many sourcing methods. For SourceCon, he created the Sourcing Labs track in 2009 and the Programmers track in 2017. Besides presenting at dozens of conferences and penning articles for recruiting trade publications and portals, in 2014 he co-founded the Boston Area Talent Sourcing Association and in 2020 he co-founded the DEI Cohort. He is a graduate of Yale University.
